“MAKING A DIFFERENCE BY BEING THE DIFFERENCE”
Lucky U Rescue, which will be located at 190 CR-3563 Queen City Texas, is currently in the preliminary stages of opening. Our mission is to serve Cass County, Bowie County and the surrounding areas as a 501c3 animal rescue boarding/grooming facility and education resource for the public. Our building was formerly owned by the Brooks family and served as a hospital for many years until its closing over 20 years ago. In October of 2023, we were blessed to hear that the long-abandoned building and the land it is on would be graciously donated to our cause and Lindsay Robbin’s lifelong dream of an animal rescue would be coming to fruition. This area is in dire need of this facility and the community support behind our project has been amazing and blessed us in so many ways. Our goal is to become a refuge for over 200 dogs and 250 cats While also providing boarding and grooming for our local community and surrounding areas. Our mission is to make a huge impact on our community by helping remedy the very immediate need of refuge for so many dumped and unwanted animals that continue to be found daily. As it stands currently, there is quite literally nowhere for them to go. We are going to, as our motto says make a difference by being the difference. We are going to lead the way with re- education of the public concerning the necessity of spaying and neutering while also providing the opportunity for local students to come and experience serving their community and to learn about pet ownership. We plan to involve our entire community in our efforts for change by inviting elementary age kids to read to our adoptable animals and providing kid friendly workshops and craft days to educate our younger generation on the proper way to care for their pets.
Our community did not develop this crisis overnight, this is the direct result of decades of irresponsibility and lack of education involving pet ownership. Our mission would in no way be complete without also developing a plan to stop the vicious cycle of animal cruelty and neglect, a lot of which stems from the outbreak of dog fighting rings in the area. We should be able to depend on our local law enforcement to help with this, however, with nowhere for the dogs to go and be rehabilitated, this is not currently a top priority. By also providing a resource for our local law enforcement to use in these types of situations, we are in turn providing a beginning to an end of animal cruelty in our area
Our conversion of this building from an abandoned hospital into an animal rescue is of course a major undertaking and comes with major expenses. Our building has 25,000 square feet of opportunity to make a huge impact for both animals and the residents in our community. The remediation for asbestos and lead is an estimated 250,000 alone. Roof replacement for that same square footage is needed, securing the building with new windows, doors and locks are among a few other things that need to be done in order to open our doors. As it stands, our Assistant Director, Brittny Cigainero, is doing her best to save one life at a time through local fosters and donations from the public. While one life at a time does make a difference, it also means that hundreds of others do not get the help that they so desperately need. We need this building to facilitate our mission to serve our community and make a difference at the same time during such a crisis as this
All this being said, we would like to also add that We have the intention of helping offset monthly expenses by using what we generate from the boarding and grooming wing as direct feedback into our rescue by providing doggie spas, training classes and pup daycare. This will help ensure that upon hard times we are not left without a supply of food and other funds to help support the animals we will be caring for.
We do sincerely appreciate your time and consideration of blessing our rescue with the much-needed funds to help serve our community, make an impact on this crisis and bring this dream to life.
Sincerely
Executive Director
